ABOUT GLAVIN COATING & REFINISHING
Over 40 years of building long-term relationships with clients and the community.
Jack Glavin, founder of Glavin Coating & Refinishing Ltd., recognized the importance of proper equipment refinishing and corrosion protection back in the 70s while maintaining equipment on his farm. His neighbours took notice as well. Soon he was servicing so much farm equipment that he had to make a choice: either remain a farmer or take a risk on something new he believed in.
In 1978, Jack started the company and never looked back. What began as a supplementary business providing blasting and coating solutions to industrial, commercial, and agricultural clients quickly grew into one of Southwestern Ontario’s key players in the coating and refinishing market.
In the 80s, the company expanded its focus to include blasting and painting bridges as well as other large structures. By the late 90s, the company had expanded so much that it necessitated relocating to a larger facility. Before the end of the decade, a new 17,500 sq. ft. building was taking GCR into the new millennium.
The 2000s saw the company taking on larger and more complicated bridge projects for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. This expansion took GCR across Northern and Southern Ontario, servicing not only the Province’s bridges and structures but to new clients as well. word spread that GCR is the company to be trusted for every size of business.
Jack Glavin stepped back in 2018, knowing the company he started and cultivated would be in exceptional hands. His two sons, Matt and Ben, have the company in their blood, after all.
The brothers now operate the family business with the same dedication and drive that began it all. Their understanding of the industry, combined with their persistent focus on providing only the highest quality of work, ensures Glavin Coating & Refinishing Ltd. will be servicing its clients for generations to come.
On January 16th, 2020 Glavin Coating & Refinishing suffered its biggest setback ever when their 17,500 square foot painting facility was lost to a fire. Very little was recovered from the fire but the yard was full of customers projects. In addition, loads of structural steel bound for a Toyota Plant in Kentucky we soon to arrive, so it was imperative that a new facility was found to get this work done. Luckily a local property owner offered us a facility that already had a large area for us to work in and more importantly a very large operational paint booth. Only 8 weeks after the devastating fire GCR was up and running again a new location in Goderich, Ontario.
After a few months in the Goderich location, it became apparent the new location was not as efficient as the old building and its proximity to suppliers and our existing customer base was a little more difficult than before. This was the catalyst in the decision to purchase 3.5 acres of land in a new industrial development in Lucan, Ontario. In November 2019 GCR broke ground on a new facility that would be equipped with a brand new blasting and painting booth . The new facility will only increase our production capabilities and service to our customers.
The building was completed in late 2020 at which time GCR moved in all its assets and began operations. Since that day small changes are made on an ongoing bases to increase production. This included more staff and additional new equipment. To this day GCR continues to add to its solid foundation.
