Quality Control sounds simple enough, but it’s a thorough process taken seriously at Glavin Coating & Refinishing Ltd. It begins with staff. They are trained in all aspects of the working environment, including confined space management; working at heights; WHMIS; forklift training; aerial work platform training; and, up-to-date safety regulations and machinery operations. These critical first steps set the stage for completing work effectively, safely, and with precision.

GCR is a member of The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) and The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). SSPC & NACE specifications, rules, and regulations are strictly followed. For bridgework, GCR employees are guided by an internal Quality Control document that is used for customers projects and is modified as needed to meet any customer requirements. Ontario Provincial Standard Specification (OPSS) 911 is followed to ensure the proper preparation and application conditions are adhered to. These specifications details how the material should be prepared and the environmental condition in with the coatings should be applied. In addition to the OPSS 911 document and to ensure proper primer and paint thickness application GCR follows SSPC SP-2 – Paint Application Standard. This document lays out the guidelines to record the thickness of each coat of primer and paint. In some instances, the thickness of the coatings is strictly monitored because if the coating is too thin it will not properly protect the substrate and too thick coatings can get in the way of the performance of the parts.

Both the OPSS 911 & SSPC SP-2 require precision testing with specialized equipment. GCR has purchased the required gauges and testing equipment to ensure we meet the standards in the specifications. Every year this equipment is sent to a laboratory to re-calibrate it ensure it is operating within the specified tolerances.
